A short version of the long story.
I’m originally from Bloomington, Indiana, and grew up there with my two brothers. I later made homes in Chicago and Los Angeles, where I live now.

Home, family, and a useful amount of context
Indiana is where I learned to be curious; Chicago is where that curiosity became an education and an adult life. I moved to Los Angeles in 2017, and it has gradually become the place that feels most like home.
I’m also a dad to a young daughter, and being present in her life is a central part of mine.
Most of my life does not divide neatly into work and leisure. I like learning things for their own sake, following questions farther than strictly necessary, and spending time with people who can be both thoughtful and funny. Travel has been part of that education, though I am as interested in how a place is built and lived in as I am in collecting destinations.

I play music when I can and am happiest seeing it performed in a room small enough to feel the edges of it.

Hiking, sailing, and travel are different versions of the same impulse: move through a place slowly enough to notice it.

I read widely, with recurring detours through philosophy, architecture, science, and the question of how to live well.

Levity
Live comedy is a reliable reminder that seriousness and insight are not the same thing.
That is about as much autobiography as the internet needs for now.
